While spring may be around the corner, the weather on the Eastern Seaboard can still be cold enough to freeze your pipes. If this happens, it could lead to serious water damage and mold growth. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to prevent this, including:
Insulating exposed pipes
Having your plumbing regularly inspected and serviced
Keeping the temperature above 55 degrees Fahrenheit
Turning off outdoor faucets in the fall
Letting faucets drip on colder days
STEPS TO TAKE AFTER A PIPE BURSTS
If a pipe does burst for any reason, take the following steps to mitigate the related water damage:
Thoroughly assessing the damage
Removing any standing water
Discarding any unsalvageable items
Drying the area with fans and dehumidifiers
Documenting the repair process for insurance claims
